Preston’s historic Winckley Square played host to our Pop-up Victorian Pie Shop on Sunday 2nd September 2012, as part of the Square Food Festival at A Vintage Guild Weekend, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

There was much more to it than just some tasty pies. Supported by the Winckley Square Community Interest Company (WSCIC), it was a great day of eye-opening culture and local history with plenty to entertain, inform and consume.

Blue Badge Guides ran free walking tours of the area. Their local knowledge provided a history of the Square, along with stories of the people who lived there.  We commissioned storyteller Dominic Kelly to create an original story that wove the facts, fictions and legends of the Square into a brand new tale.

We also commissioned the artist Jim Medway to breathe life into some of the notable folk whose history was tied up with Winckley Square. He also delivered comic book workshops, for children and adults, throughout the day, offering them the chance to create their own comic strips set in the Square.

The event also provided an opportunity for the people of Preston to express their views on the Square’s future.
