Originally conceived as a stand-alone project co-programming spaces with communities and exploring Preston’s relationship to culture, Then The City has become a method of researching & practicing culture with the people we work with, embedded across our ongoing projects.

Then the Cities – Ongoing research investigates what makes a city culturally engaged, and how communities can participate more fully in a cultural / artistic environment, through linked projects, instillations, programme, & commissions.

Embedded as research across our projects, Then The City explodes and engages the city as cultural citizens-producers-participants. Through artist/practitioner-led research interventions, workshops, projects, instillations and events. It enables community co-programming & commissioning, helping extend cultural and artistic engagement through interaction with nationally relevant practitioners, and draw audience from Lancashire & beyond.

‘And then the city…’ questions, through interdisciplinary work, the curiosities and intricacies of locality, living in and out of the city, economy, health, and education, and creative engaged practice. This builds on the 3 year track record of work undertaken by TEC translating quality arts experiences into accessible cultural engagement for audiences within the Preston and across Lancashire.

“Then The City…transforms itself into a vibrant, cultural hub. A centre of excellence for cultural entertainment” Anonymous
